Yes, our facility uses conscious sedation for any colonoscopy service provided. You'll be given a narcotic and a sedative in your IV. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to give us a call before your appointment!
Conscious sedation is defined as “a drug-induced depression of consciousness during which patients are able to maintain their own reflexes and airway without the need for an anesthesiologist,” according to the American Society of Anesthesiologists. Whereas general anesthesia involves “drug-induced loss of consciousness during which patients are not arousable, even by painful stimulation." General anesthesia requires an anesthesiologist which increases the cost of your procedure by about $2,000. For more questions regarding our colonoscopy service, give us a call today!
Most patients feel nothing and don’t remember the actual procedure. Patients have also described the sedation as the best sleep they've ever had during their colonoscopy service.
The effects of the sedation could last up to a day, so you should not drive or operate any machinery until the following day. Do not make any legal decisions for 24 hours after any colonoscopy or EGD procedures.
Yes, our patients are given conscious sedation for EGD procedures.
There's usually no pain associated with this test. The endoscopes our facility uses are for pediatric patients, therefore most patients don't even have a sore throat afterward. As with any of our procedures, like reflux testing and colonoscopies, we do all we can to provide comfort to our patients!
This depends on whether you're having problems and symptoms or not. If the colonoscopy is for a first-time screening and you meet our “direct” qualifications, no appointment is required. For other procedures, such as with intravenous infusions, please call to see if an office appointment is required!
If you are calling for a first-time colonoscopy, a referral is not necessary. If you're having problems, we prefer a referral from your Primary Care Physician so we don't duplicate any testing you've already had done. We offer services from colonoscopies to reflux testing, so if you're unsure if a referral is necessary for your situation, don't hesitate to reach out!
