Office Consultation and Follow Up Care

Office consultation (GI consult) is a critical function for any specialist. Initial office consultations are performed by a board-certified gastroenterologist, not a nurse practitioner at the time of this posting. The physicians of Gastroenterology Associates of Southeast Missouri PC bring to the Cape Girardeau community a combined experience spanning over 70 years in the field of digestive diseases and gastrointestinal endoscopy.

Patients may have chronic digestive issues that require the knowledge base possessed by a specialist in this field of medicine. There are many reasons why physicians seek to specialize in a particular field of internal medicine.

Gastroenterology covers a wide variety of diseases affecting the esophagus, stomach, small and large intestine, liver, and pancreas. Endoscopic training is a vital component of the digestive disease fellowship.

GA of Southeast Missouri offers both consultation and ongoing care for several GI diseases that may require specialty expertise.

Colon cancer prevention is a major part of our practice. Current recommendations are for patients age 50 and older is a screening colonoscopy. Our onsite endoscopy facility makes this procedure very accessible.

Inflammatory bowel disease (commonly called IBD) such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are examples of two major digestive disorders that GI specialist manage. Care for these patients typically is under the direction of a gastroenterologist. Advances in biologic therapy for inflammatory bowel disease have made a significant impact on patient quality of life. GA of Southeast Missouri has an established infusion service to allow our IBD patients easy access to biologic therapy.

What Should You Bring to Your Appointment

Insurance cards, photo ID, and all medications both prescribed as well as medication that you take without a prescription. For new appointments, it would be very helpful to download registration materials and a patient history form. If you print and complete these at home, bring them to the office. Filling out these forms can take some time.

If you have had recent lab test, X-rays, or other tests done that relate to your visit, please have them sent to our office preferably several days prior to your visit date.

If you have not been seen in three years by a clinic physician, you will be considered a new patient. New patient forms can be found on this site, or if you have been seen recently, fill out the patient update form.
